Check your HTH email for your ballot on Monday, Oct 18, and vote by 5pm on Thursday, Oct 21st! We know there have been ongoing issues with missing paychecks and benefits for teachers, and are hoping that reaching out to admin and to charter authorizers will help expedite a response. If this issue has been impacting you or your colleagues, we are using our Compensation Survey to track and follow up on this issue.
It's time to democratically elect officers and bargaining team members!
We are hearing from a number of staff - particularly new staff, but some returning staff as well - who have not been paid on time, not been paid at all, not getting benefits, or other payment issues as our HR department manages an influx of new staff this year. Section 210 of the California Labor Code requires that employers who fail to pay the wages of an employee by the designated payroll date be required to pay a penalty to the employee of $100 for the initial violation and $200 plus 25% of the amount unlawfully withheld for any subsequent violations.
We know that none of us are just in this for the money, but we also know that getting paid for our labor is important. One of the benefits of a union is that we are not alone in addressing these issues, and we have both the support of solidarity and access to experts.
